Rashidah Ayinbode's Experience as a Scheme Alumni

"The IHAV training and internship scheme was a great experience and gave me insight into what a career in policy and public affairs can look like. It’s perfect for anyone early in their career, whether you’re still studying or recently graduated. Rebecca and Amelia gave really helpful CV and cover letter advice tailored to the industry, and we got to visit several in-house teams and agencies, including Weber Shandwick, GK Strategy, the British Business Bank, and People’s Partnership. We also worked in groups to design our own public affairs campaign, which was a fun way to put our learning into practice!

Through the scheme, I secured an internship with the Public Affairs team at Weber Shandwick, which was my first work experience after graduating. I got involved in preparing briefing materials, monitoring parliamentary updates, helping with event planning, and supporting policy research. The experience gave me a clear sense that this is the industry I want to build my career in, and it really helped me regain confidence in myself, especially in a competitive job market. I’m so thankful to Rebecca, Amelia, and the IHAV team for all their support, and I’d highly recommend taking part in the scheme to anyone interested in policy and public affairs!"
